Homophobia Awareness Liaison Team (HALT)
What is HALT?
HALT is a multi-agency partnership working to make Oxfordshire a safer and more inclusive community for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
Who makes up HALT?
- representatives from the LGBT community in Oxfordshire
- the five district councils
- Oxfordshire County Council
- Thames Valley Police
- Terrence Higgins Trust
- Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust
- Crown Prosecution Service
- Oxford Brookes University
- Oxford University
- Oxford Pride
- Soha housing
What does HALT do?
- has a presence at Gay Pride events across Oxfordshire
- is represented at community forums
- produces and distributes posters and literature to educate and encourage the elimination of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in Oxfordshire (you can download copies of these on the right)
- runs workshops for local authorities and businesses to raise awareness of LGBT issues
- monitors the work of the Police and other agencies when dealing with homophobic, biphobic and transphobic incidents and highlights areas where increased action is required
- carries out a survey of the LGBT community each year to ascertain what issues need to be addressed and uses the results to formulate an action plan
