Air quality reports

Under the local air quality management regime, councils are required to submit an annual report to Defra regarding air quality in its district.

There are a number of different reports required on a rolling three year program :

  • Updating and Screening Assessment (USA)
  • Detailed Assessment (DA)
  • Further Assessment (FA)
  • Progress Report (PR)

The USA is a screening report identified to highlight any areas which might need looking at in more detail.

If no locations are identified then the following year, only a progress report is required looking at any possible changes in emissions, for example new developments or new road layouts.

If the USA identifies any locations that require looking into in more detail, then a Detailed Assessment is required.  If the DA confirms a problem, then a Further Assessment is then also required to give a more detailed view.

Then the following year the process starts again with another USA.
